A tolerance communicates the acceptable variation in a dimension. Identify features that control fit, assembly or function, and distinguish them from less critical features. Avoid assigning tight requirements to every dimension without a functional reason. Feasibility must be reviewed against geometry, material and inspection method.

01

Mark critical features

Explain which dimensions control the function of the part.

02

Include datums

Define the reference surfaces used to measure and assemble the part.

03

Confirm verification

Discuss inspection method and required reporting before ordering.
